McMullin Injury Law started the back-to-school coloring contest in 2015 as a fun way to reinforce important safety principles. This year’s coloring pages, all custom-drawn by local artist Kenny Jackson, promote themes of seat belt safety, bicycle safety, dog safety, crossing streets safely, the importance of wearing helmets and positive interactions with law enforcement.

“Back-to-school shopping is getting expensive, so the contest is bigger and better this year and we’re giving away $2,000 to help take the strain off 10 parents’ budgets,” founding partner Anthony C. McMullin said. “It’s not about being artistic; it’s about teaching our kids about safety.”

To enter, download and print one of the coloring pages from the McMullin Injury Law website. Drop off the completed page at the firm’s St. George office, located at 301 N. 200 East, Suite 3C, before 6 p.m. on Aug. 8. The child’s name, age and phone number should be clearly written at the bottom.

Ten winners will be randomly selected to receive a cash prize of $200 each for a back-to-school shopping spree. Winners will be contacted and invited to collect their prize on Aug. 9.

There’s no age limit to participate, but only entrants 13 and under will be eligible for the cash prizes. Every child will receive a candy bar for participating.

“Over the years, we’ve received thousands of coloring pages and given away tens of thousands of dollars in cash prizes,” McMullin said. “It’s not only fun for the kids, but we enjoy it; just seeing the different ways kids take the time to color their pages and how creative they get with it.”

Along with giving budding artists the opportunity to show off their skills, McMullin hopes the coloring contest starts conversations between parents and kids about staying safe at home, at school and everywhere else they go. It’s just one more way McMullin Injury Law, the largest personal injury firm in Southern Utah, gives back to the community.

Every summer, McMullin Injury Law partners with the city of St. George to sponsor Safety Town, an entertaining yet educational program for kids entering kindergarten or first grade in the upcoming school year. Through fun hands-on activities, students learn about common safety concerns, including “stranger danger,” bullying, fire safety, internet safety, bike safety and more.
