City of St. George’s Winter Concert Series returns for the 2024 season and kicks off tonight, Monday, October 14, with Mr. OK and The Last Light.

Although chilly temperatures are still a ways off, the City of St. George’s Community Arts division is busily preparing for the return of the free Winter Concert Series. This monthly, four-concert series kicks off with Mr. OK and the Last Light, on Oct. 14 at 7 p.m. at the Electric Theater. All are welcome for a night filled with great tunes and good vibes.

“The Winter Concert Series is a festive celebration of music that brings together community members of all ages,” says Peyton Lee, Community Arts Manager for the City of St. George. “Each concert is a unique opportunity to discover new sounds and celebrate the creativity that thrives in our area. Whether you’re a longtime fan of live music or just looking for a fun evening out, the Winter Concert Series has something for everyone.”

The 2024 season includes bands from a variety of genres:

  • Oct. 14: Mr. OK and the Last Light (reggae)
  • Nov. 11: No Proof (rock and blues)
  • Dec. 10: Ted Vigil’s John Denver Christmas (country)
  • Jan. 13: Knights of Rock (rock and pop from the 1970s and 80s)

Mr. OK and The Last Light is a reggae-based groove collective composed of six artists who call Southern Utah home. They formed in 2021 out of a summer jam to support the ideas and songs of Mr. OK, (Charlie O-K) from his live looping sets. Their objective: to create a version of the songs that were more dynamic than what he could build on his looping pedal.

Initially, they planned to play a single show. Yet after leaving the stage that night they realized they could do more, creating new versions of songs with a unique blend of modern reggae, rock, funk and hip-hop.

Established in 2022, the Winter Concert Series typically occurs on the second Monday of each month, with some exceptions, from October through January. The Winter Concert Series follows Concert in the Park, a six-show series that runs April through September at Vernon Worthen Park.
