Mike played a little football, loved track and field and was a good athlete. Soon after graduating from high school, he married Julie Barney, and they welcomed their son Brady and their daughter Dallas. They divorced a few years later.

Mike was a talented tile setter and concrete finisher. He worked in construction and enjoyed working with his hands. Mike always loved being in the hills, hunting, looking for arrowheads, and cutting wood. He loved the outdoors, Dutch oven cooking and exploring with others.

Mike had many friends, always had a smile on his face, and was fun to be around. As a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, later life one of his greatest joys was being able to visit the Temple.
